Guard returns home to play for Badger basketball

MADISON, Wis. –  Alex Luehring, a 6-2 guard from Verona, Wisconsin, is transferring to the University of Wisconsin to play women's basketball, head coach Jonathan Tsipis announced.

"We are excited to welcome Alex to the Badger Women's Basketball family," said Tsipis. "Alex brings great length, size and shooting ability to our program.  She a coach's daughter, who has a high basketball IQ and a state championship pedigree.

"In the unique situation, Alex felt the need to be home with her father during this difficult time and Green Bay was very supportive of her decision to come home.  Alex is a great fit with our team and we look forward to the impact she will have on our program."

Luehring spent her freshman season at Green Bay where she redshirted.

During her senior season, Luehring averaged 20.5 points per game at Verona High School, being named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State first team. She was also named to the Wisconsin State Journal All-Area Girls Basketball First Team and the Big Eight Conference Player of the Year.

Ranked No. 78 nationally and a four-star recruit by ESPN Hoop Gurlz, Luehring was a member of Verona's 2016 state championship team for Coach Angie Murphy. She reached 1,000 career points as a senior.
