Wisconsin wins home-opener over Hartford 2-0
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer (1-1 overall) turned the tables on Monday night after losing its season-opening match against Grand Canyon on Friday night. The Badgers came out lightning fast against Hartford (0-1-1) and put on an impressive show at the McClimon Soccer Complex winning 2-0.
Wisconsin's success all started from some poetry in motion between Badgers' freshmen Andrew Akindele, Olafur Olafsson and Duncan Storey.
It was all solid possession and a level head for the Wisconsin squad from there. It wasn't until the 81st minute that the Badgers broke through once again, as Akindele was fouled inside the box. Junior Noah Leibold stepped up calmly to take the penalty kick and rifled it home into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

"It was just a good team win. It's good to be back at McClimon with a good team, Hartford. It's a tough team to play against. You know obviously, both teams on three days rest. We had to fly back, they've been staying in a hotel. Coach Poitras used to coach at Green Bay thanks for bringing his team here. It was a good team win. I thought were improvements in some areas. I thought we were a little bit more dangerous when we thrust a goal. We're doing a lot of figuring out with this group. It was nice for Duncan Storey to get a goal. I think that helped him really settle in. Andrew being strong enough and smart enough to hold the ball up and draw the foul for the second goal because they were hanging on him was brilliant. Those can be really tricky games. You can look at it and say well you had some chances to maybe put it away earlier. Hopefully in the future we find a second goal on a set piece or somewhere during the run of play. We handled their push. It wasn't perfect at times but we'll take this and move forward. We've got our tournament this weekend when Fordham and Valpo come to town and Northwestern will be here and it will be a great opportunity for the fans to come out and see some great soccer."
"Excellent program. I know they have some very, very early preseason All-American type guys back. I know their goalkeeper is exceptional. That's why we schedule them. We are fortunate that they wanted to come out here and play Northwestern and us, both Big Ten teams. Saturday night is going to be a kind of opening weekend with school and the football game being on Friday. We encourage a big crowd and it'd be great to see two NCAA tournament teams. I haven't seen the national rankings this week but I would imagine that both teams will be nationally ranked. Let's get after it again."

Akindele plays a brilliant ball wide to Olafsson who sends a laser through the box for Duncan Storey's first career goal!
It's the first of the season for this Badger team on their home turf... many more to come!!
