October 02, 2018 | Men's Hockey
MADISON, Wis. – As the start of the 2018-19 Wisconsin men's hockey season nears, UWBadgers.com delves deeper into both the on and off-ice lives of each of UW's nine newest skaters, exploring topics ranging from favorite hockey memories to what they would ask for if they had one wish.
Continuing with this year's series is defenseman and Eau Claire, Wisconsin native Ty Emberson.
Before joining the Badgers, Emberson spent two seasons in Plymouth, Michigan, playing with the U.S. National Team Development Program alongside fellow Wisconsin teammate K'Andre Miller. In 110 games, Emberson tallied 36 assists and 40 points while averaging .36 points a game against USHL and NCAA Division I opponents. Emberson also appeared in six international competitions, including four Five Nations Tournaments, the World Under-17 Challenge and the 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games. Most recently, Emberson helped the Under-18 National Team to a gold medal at the 2018 Five Nations Tournament, registering one assist and eight shots on goal. Prior to joining the NTDP, Emberson played high school hockey at Eau Claire Memorial High School, notching 33 points in 22 games and earning First Team All-State and WIAA Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2016. This past June, Emberson was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft.
Emberson will wear the No. 10 sweater this season, joining former Badgers Mark Johnson, Robbie Earl and John Mitchell in wearing the number.
