Men's golf tied for first place after two rounds in Cincinnati
CINCINNATI, Ohio- The first two rounds of the Musketeer Classic at Maketewah Country Club proved no match for the Badgers.
The first round saw the team settle into second place after shooting a three-under 281 collectively. Three players shot under par in that first round.
Leading the team after the first 18 holes was freshman Coalter Smith. Carding a three-under 68, Smith set a career low 18-hole score for himself. Juniors Sam Anderson and Griffin Barela both kept it under par as well, Anderson at one-under-par 70 and Barela at two-under 69. Barela set himself a season low 18-hole score.
Debuting with the team was freshman Jack Blair. Round one saw him finish at three-over par 74, beating his career low score that was set at 75 when he competed as an individual at the Badger Invitational.
Pete Kuhl, the lone individual entry, also kept it under par with a one-under 70, a season low for him.
Â
Just when round one was looking good, round two got even better. The Badgers are tied for first place after shooting a six-over 290. Together, the team has set a new season low 36-hole score at 571, a 19-stroke improvement from the previous 590 set at the Badger Invitational.
Smith provided comment on the team, saying "As a team, we have been pretty disappointed by our play so far and have worked really hard trying to turn it around."
The hard work appears to be paying off.
Smith is tied for third with a 36-hole 139 while Barela is tied for sixth, just one stroke back. Anderson finished the first day in a tie for 10th place at even par. Kuhl is currently tied for 17th with a two-over 144 and set a season low for his 36-hole score. Blair is tied for 50th at eight-over-par. Blair and Smith both set career low 36-hole scores.
The team tees off on Tuesday morning at 8Â a.m. for the final 18 holes. Live stats can be found on Golfstat.
