Honors & Awards: Two-time Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar ... Three-time Academic All-Big Ten ... 2021-22 Big Ten Preseason Honoree

2021-22: Named a Big Ten Preseason Honoree ... finished in the top-25 at all nine tournaments this season ... recorded three top-10 finishes, two of those being top-three finishes ... finished third in back-to-back tournaments, first at the Badger Invitational and then at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate ... finished T6 at the Big Ten Championship, his final collegiate tournament ... shot an 18-hole career-low of 66 in the second round of Hootie at Bulls Bay ... had the lowest average on the team for the season with a 71.07 ... finished the season under par over all his finishes.

2020-21: Barela competed in all six events for the Badgers in the 2020-21 season ... best finish was T23 at the Boilermaker Intercollegiate after shooting 73-75-71 for a total of 219 ... lowest score of the season was a two-over-par 218 at the Kiawah Invitational.

2019-20: Played in all five fall tournaments and both spring tournaments... best finish T11 at White Sands Intercollegiate... marked seven rounds under par for the season... second lowest team average at 73.33, ninth lowest season average in program history... tied 15 for lowest 54-hole score in program record book with a 210... holds third lowest career average in program history at 73.39

2018-19: Competed in every event for the Badgers during his sophomore season... held the second-best scoring average on the team with a 72.78... tallied three-straight rounds in the 60's (69-67-67= 203 (-10) to earn a career-best 54-hole finish by seven strokes and finish T4th individually at the 2019 Hawkeye Invitational... finished in the top-ten overall in three of UW's 11 tournaments while leading all Badgers in four of the season's events.

2017-18: Competed in all 12 events for the Badgers, joining Jordan Hahn and Pete Kuhl as the only UW golfers to do so ... scoring average of 74.06 was second-best on the team and third-best among Wisconsin freshmen all-time ... earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors after tying for eighth place in his first collegiate tournament, the Badger Invitational, finishing the 54-hole tournament at 5-under par ... became the first UW golfer to earn medalist honors since 2009 when he tied for first place at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, finishing the last round in the snow ... finished first or second among the Badgers in six of the 11 stroke play events

High School: Tied for fourth place at the Colorado Class 5A state championship as a senior and tied for fifth as a junior ... led Lakewood to three straight conference titles as a team and won the individual conference championship as a senior

Amateur: Won the 2016 Colorado Junior Match Play title ... earned medalist honors at the National Junior Amateur Qualifying tournament advancing him to the National Junior Amateur in the summer of 2016 ... finished second at the AJGA WinCraft/McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legends event in Waukesha in the summer of 2017 ... also finished second at the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado Tour event at Todd Creek GC in May of 2017 ... won the 2017 AJGA at Greenhorn ... finished ninth in the 2017 AJGA Polo Invite ... ranked No. 58 in the 2017 class and No. 1 in Colorado.

  • Practice routine- Hit short putts with a mirror to check set up, gradually make way to hitting lag putts, hit a few pitches and bunker shots, then hit balls on the range

  • Favorite part about the practice center- Being able to hit out on the range and see ball flight in the winter
  • Best golf course snack- Peanut butter sandwiches
  • Any golf superstitions/rituals?- Carry tees and ball marker in my front right pocket, pencil in front left, yardage book in back left, and glove in back right
