MADISON, Wis. – No. 4 Wisconsin (14-4, 10-0 B1G) opens the second half of Big Ten play with a home match. Wisconsin hosts Maryland (12-10, 4-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the UW Field House. The match airs live on the Big Ten Network.Â
1. 🎃 HALLOWEEN WITH THE BADGERS: 🎃 Celebrate Halloween with Badger Volleyball! All fans are encouraged to wear their Halloween costume in anticipation for the upcoming holiday! Bucky will be picking his favorite costumes during the match for a contest at intermission, the winner will take home a Badger Prize Pack! Please view the Field House Carry-In Policy, for more information regarding appropriate costumes. All patrons will need to uncover their face upon entry and if requested by staff.
Stuff the Field House: Fans are encouraged to bring stuffing and monetary donations to benefit the Goodman Community Center. Items will be collected at the entrance gates before the match.
2. 10 UP, 10 DOWN: After the first half of Big Ten play, Wisconsin remains undefeated in league action. The Badgers have an unmatched 10-0 mark, their best start since 2001, after sweeping Michigan State on Friday and downing Michigan, 3-1, on Sunday. Wisconsin's 10-match winning streak is its longest of the season. The streak includes wins over four ranked teams. The Badgers' best Big Ten records in program history are a 19-1 mark in 2001 and a 19-1 record in 2014, when UW won 19 straight conference matches.
3. SCORING FROM THE SERVICE LINE: Over the last five matches, UW is averaging 2.17 service aces per set. The Badgers have seven-or-more aces in each match led by 11 scores from freshman Izzy Ashburn. Wisconsin is also allowing only 0.39 service aces per set. The Badgers have held four opponents, including two Big Ten foes, to zero service aces this season. In Big Ten matches, UW leads the conference with 1.94 service aces per set while allowing a Big Ten-best 0.57 aces per set. In all matches, Wisconsin ranks 14th in the nation and leads the Big Ten with 1.79 service aces per set.
4. TOUGH DEFENSE: The Badgers have also held their last five opponents under .181 in hitting percentage. Foes are hitting just .167 over the stretch while Wisconsin is hitting .289. UW is also averaging 2.64 blocks per set while opponents are averaging 1.72 blocks per set. UW held No. 6 Minnesota to .160 on Oct. 13, No. 17 Illinois to .181 on Oct. 18, Northwestern to .156 on Oct. 19, Michigan State to .151 on Oct. 25 and Michigan to .176 on Oct. 27. In addition to strong serving, UW is averaging 2.64 blocks and 14.44 digs per set over the span.  Â
5. AMAZING GRACE: Junior Grace Loberg has recorded double-figure kills in four straight matches, averaging 3.60 kills per set. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter ranks eighth with a .340 hitting percentage in Big Ten-only matches, the highest outside hitter in the league. Loberg also ranks sixth in conference-only matches with 3.57 kills per set. In all matches, she ties teammate Molly Haggerty with 3.32 kills per set. A force at the net on defense too, Loberg recorded a career-best six blocks at Michigan on Sunday. Over the last four matches, she is averaging 0.87 blocks per set, up from her season average of 0.37 blocks per set.
