Badgers take down Minnesota

Both men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams start 1-0 in Big Ten

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming & diving teams both picked up Big Ten wins at Minnesota on Friday. The women brought it down to the wire, coming away with a 155-145 victory, as the men impressed with a 177-123 triumph.

The Badgers had a number of impressive individual performances, with multiple senior swimmers coming away with top finishes in more than one event.

On the women's side, senior Beata Nelson took first in the 100 Back (51.31), 200 Back (1:53.65), and the 100 Fly (52.38), while also helping the Badgers touch first in the 200 Free relay (1:32.10). Senior Megan Doty also shined, taking the top spot in the 200 Free (1:47.55), 200 Fly (2:00.82), and 400 IM (4:19.16).

For the men, it was seniors Cameron Tysoe, Michael Milinovich, and Griffin Back, as well as junior Matthew Novinski, who came through big.
Tysoe earned wins in the 200 Free (1:38.43) and 200 Back (1:46.49), Milinovich took first in the 200 Fly (1:48.95) and 400 IM (3:58.54), Back won the 50 Free (20.31) and 100 Free (44.46), while helping multiple relay teams to a first-place finish – the 200 Free (1:21.30) and 200 Medley (1:27.88) – and Novinski came through with a win in the 100 Back (47.97) and assisted in the Badgers' victory of the 200 Medley relay.

Additional notable wins in the pool came from junior MJ Mao, who finished first in the men's 100 Fly (47.79), junior Madison Waechter, earning the top spot in the women's 500 Free (4:52.94) and 1000 Free (9:55.99), and sophomore Alana Palmer who touched first in the women's 100 Free (50.49).

Sophomore Tazman Abramowicz was the lone Badger diver who finished in the top spot on the boards, winning the men's 3 meter with a score of 398.03.

Up Next

Both the men's and women's teams will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina for the North Carolina State Fall Invitational on November 21st through the 23rd.
