Badgers poised to host tournament for eighth straight year
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's golf team hosts the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona for its second event of 2019, Feb. 24-25 at the Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course.
Here are five things to know before the team tees off:
1. Last time out: Badgers sophomore Claire Fitzgerald tied for 60th individually with a 54-hole performance of 220 (+4). Her 3-under par 69 in the first round was a career-best as was her three-round total. As a team, Wisconsin finished the week with a score of 891 (+27).
2. Invite Format: The 16‐team field and individuals will participate in a 54-hole invitational to be played on the par 72, 6,432-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course. Playing in threesomes, the teams will play 36 holes Sunday in a shotgun format. Pairings for the final 18 holes on Monday will be determined by score. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.
Sunday, Feb. 24 ‐ 8:30 a.m. MT shotgun start followed immediately by the second round
Monday, Feb. 25 ‐ 8:30 a.m. MT shotgun start
3. The Seven: UW will travel seniors Jessica Reinecke, Tess Hackworthy and Nat Zeng, sophomore Claire Fitzgerald and freshman Gabrielle Tomeo to this weekend's invitational. Sophomore Mackenzie Hahn and freshman Tracy Lee will play as individuals.
4. The Competition: The Badgers will host Denver, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Tennessee, UC Davis and Washington State.
5. Good Memories: At last year's Westbrook Invitational, UW put on a display never before seen in school history. The Badgers finished with a school-record score of 20-under par (844) with four players earning top-15 finishes. Senior Jessica Reinecke will be making her fourth appearance at the Westbrook and has carded two rounds in the 60s.
