Hoare, McDonald and Monson to compete Saturday in New York City

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin trio of Olli Hoare, Morgan McDonald and Alicia Monson will take their talents to the Big Apple on Saturday to compete at the New York Road Runners' Millrose Games at the historic Armory.

The meet will be shown live on NBC starting at 3:30 p.m. CT as all three Badgers will compete in the broadcast window.

Monson will be the first Badger in action as she will race in the Fred Lebow Women's 3000 meters at 3:36 p.m. CT. The 2018 Big Ten Cross Country Champion will race against some of the world's best runners, including Emma Coburn, the bronze medalist in the steeplechase at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the reigning IAAF world champion in the steeplechase. An All-American in cross country thanks to her fourth-place finish at the 2018 national championships in Madison, Monson will also face stiff competition from fellow collegians Weini Kelati, the NCAA cross country runner-up in 2018, and Sharon Lokedi, the 2018 NCAA 10,000 Meters Champion.

The reigning NCAA cross country champion McDonald will race at 3:53 p.m. CT in the Dr. Sander Men's 3000 meters against several familiar foes. McDonald will toe the line against Stanford Grant Fisher, the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Runner-up, Justyn Knight, a two-time NCAA champion while at Syracuse, Ben Flanagan, the 2018 NCAA 10,000 Meters Champion and fellow Australian Pat Tiernan, the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Champion. Saturday's meet will be McDonald's first race for the Cardinal and White since winning the NCAA cross country title at the Zimmer Championship Course in November.

The 2018 NCAA 1500 Meters Champion, Hoare will be the final Badger to compete at the Armory on Saturday as he will race in the Wanamaker Mile at 4:48 p.m. CT. It will be a rematch of last year's NCAA 1500 meters final as Hoare will race against Josh Kerr, the 1500 meter national champion in 2017. Hoare will also face off against Edward Cheserek, a 17-time NCAA champion while at Oregon, Clayton Murphy, the bronze medalist in the 800 meters at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and Nick Willis, a two-time Olympic medalist in the 1500 meters.
