Hacker crowned 3000 meters champion at Iowa State Classic

Redshirt junior runs No. 9 time in program history on Friday
AMES, Iowa – Wisconsin's distance squad showed out at the first day of the Iowa State Classic, led by redshirt junior Olin Hacker's big win in the invitational section of the 3000 meters.

Hacker stuck with the top pack right from the get-go. In the last two laps, the Madison, Wisconsin, native made his move and created a gap between himself and the rest of the group. Hacker crossed the line in a personal best time of 7 minutes, 53.88 seconds, which ranks No. 9 in program history. In addition, his time also currently ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten conference.

Ben Eidenschink also put up a huge performance, taking fourth overall in the 5000 meters with a time of 13:57.52, besting his previous personal best time by about eight full seconds.

Teammate Tyson Miehe also competed in the 5000 meters, coming through with a time of 14:20.39.

In his indoor season debut, redshirt junior Zack Snider came out hot, earning a runner-up finish in the 3000 meters. After sticking with the lead pack for the majority of the 3000 meters race, Snider turned on the jets in the last two laps, crossing the line in 8:11.45 to secure his runner-up spot.

Zack Benning also competed in the 3000 meters, taking 11th overall with a time of 8:17.24, just a second off of his personal best in the event.

The Badgers will return to the Lied Recreation Athletic Center on Saturday for the second day of the Iowa State Classic. Wisconsin will take to the track starting at 1:10 p.m. with the men's mile. In addition, three Badgers will be competing at the Millrose Games in New York City. Action starts at 3:30 p.m.Â
