Five UW players continuing professional careers
MADISON, Wis. -- Five Wisconsin women's basketball alumnae, who continued their career after graduation, are currently playing professional basketball and are shining. Last week, four of five players won their games as all leagues are counting down the regular season.
Experienced Jolene Anderson (5'9''-SG-86, graduated '08, plays pro in Italy) led Venezia to a victory over the eighth-ranked Sesto SG (7-11) 74-62 in the Italian Serie A1 last Sunday. She was MVP of the game. Anderson had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added eight assists and three steals in 34 minutes.
Reyer Venezia Mestre (16-2) is placed first in the Serie A1. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory. There are only two games left until the end of the regular season. So now every game will be critical. Anderson has relatively good stats this year 12.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 3.8 apg and 1.4 spg in 19 games she played so far.
Taylor Wurtz (6'0''-G-90, graduated '14, plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (9-9) crushing them 115-81 in the French LFB on Saturday night. Wurtz scored 14 points and added five assists.
Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration Basket (13-5) is placed third in the LFB. There are only four games left until the end of the regular season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Wurtz's first season with the team. This year she averages 9.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 2.0 apg.
Cayla McMorris (6'0''-G-96, graduated '18, currently in Sweden) was the main contributor in Hogsbo's victory against one of league's weakest teams Mark (2-16) crushing them 68-48 in the Swedish Damligan in Sunday night's game. She was MVP of the game. McMorris recorded 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 26 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her first season in pro basketball.
Hogsbo Basket Goteborg (9-10) is placed seventh in the Damligan. McMorris' team will play only one more game in the regular season. And now that game is quite important. McMorris has relatively good stats this year 14.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 2.5 apg in four games.
Cassie Rochel (6'5''-C-91, graduated '15, plays pro in Greece). Rochel could not help AO Eleutheria Moshatou (8-9) to beat Iraklis (18-3) in the Greek A1. In Saturday's game, Rochel scored two points, grabbed eight rebounds and had two blocks. AO Eleutheria Moshatou was defeated 75-61 on the road by the second-ranked Iraklis.
Rochel is averaging a double-double this season 12.9 ppg, 12.8 rpg, 1.3 apg, 2.0 bpg and 2.4 spg.
Rae Lin D'Alie (5'6''-PG-87, graduated '10, plays in Italy) contributed to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked Faenza (16-8) 76-60 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) on Saturday night. D'Alie was MVP of the game. She scored 18 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished four assists in 30 minutes.
Matteiplast Bologna (18-5) is placed third in South group. It was her team's fifth consecutive victory. D'Alie has individually a very good year with high stats. She averages 18.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.6 apg and 1.7 spg in 23 games. D'Alie is a naturalized Italian.
