Wisconsin hosts Northwestern Friday, honors two seniors on Sunday against Illinois
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin (9-10, 3-5 B1G) men's tennis team heads home for the closing weekend of the regular season for Big Ten matches against Northwestern and Illinois.
Assuming good weather, both match against Northwestern and Illinois will be at the Badgers' new outdoor courts behind the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Fans can enter the outdoor tennis courts by going through the Goodman Plaza located by Goodman Diamond.
1. Westerman's wing:
"Really excited to close the regular season at home with Senior Day on Sunday. We have some exciting Big Ten matchups in Northwestern and Illinois. It will be great to play in front of our fans one last time at home."
- Head coach Danny Westerman
2. Scouting Northwestern: Northwestern is very comparable to Wisconsin in the 2019 season. The Wildcats are 13-12 overall and 4-5 in the loaded Big Ten conference. Northwestern has tallied wins over conference opponents Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, and Purdue.
Wisconsin played the Wildcats in the final match of the regular season a year ago in Evanston. The Badgers took the match 5-2, with now-senior Osgar O'Hoisin picking up wins in both the doubles and singles frame. Wisconsin is 41-62-3 all-time against Northwestern and 22-25-1 at home.
3. Scouting Illinois: Illinois is 14-7 and 8-1 in the Big Ten conference en route to an elite No. 15 ITA ranking. The Fighting Illini's single conference loss came at the hands of then-No.2 Ohio State.
The Badgers suffered a 5-2 loss against then-No. 8 Illinois on the road a season ago by a score of 5-2. Now-sophomore Robert Krill was able to pick up the solo singles win at the No. 6 spot to secure the second point for Bucky. The Badgers are down 31-57 in the overall series record against the Fighting Illini but hold a 14-23 mark when playing at Nielsen.
