Madison native to make 12th international appearance
MADISON, Wis. —  Former Wisconsin standout and current Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter was one of the first 17 players named to the 2019 U.S. Men's National Team, USA Hockey announced Thursday.
The national team will suit up for the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship, which will be held May 10-26 in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia.
A native of Madison, Suter has represented the Americans on the international stage 11 times, the most of any player on the team.
Prior to joining the national team, Suter was the leading defensive scorer for the Minnesota Wild, and averaged the most minutes of any NHL skater during the 2018-19 season.
The Americans are set to begin tournament play Friday, May 10, against host-team Slovakia.
The U.S. has medalled in three of the last six IIHF Men's World Championship (bronze in 2013, 2015, 2018), its best medal stretch since the 1950s.
