Davis goes the distance: Junior takes fourth in 10K

With stiff competition, Amy Davis has strong race
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Wisconsin women's track and field team kicked off championship season at the 2019 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.
In a tight 10,000 meter race, Amy Davis finished fourth with a personal best time of 33 minutes, 12.26 seconds. Davis stayed in control and was never outside of the top ten and made a kick to push into the top five about half way through the race.

The Madison, Wisconsin, native ranks fifth in school history in the 10,000 meters and will qualify her for the NCAA West Preliminary Championships later this month in Sacramento, California.

Senior Shaelyn Sorensen also competed and took eighth in the 10,000 meters. She finished with a time of 33:35.73 to score a point for the Badgers.

Haley Lubow and Bianca Stubler proved to be a dynamic duo again at the Big Ten Championship with both of them setting personal bests in the 400 meter hurdles. Lubow finished in 10th place with a time of 59.97 seconds. Lubow improves her time and keeps her mark of 10th on the Badgers all-time top-ten list. Stubler finished just behind Lubow in 11th place with a 1:00.11 time.

In the women's 200 meters, Ebony McClendon recorded a top-10 finish. She ran a time of 23.88 seconds to take ninth. Hannah Wilson finished with a personal best time of 25.18, putting her in 24th place.

Two Badgers also earned top-10 finishes in the javelin. Junior Emma Fitzgerald took ninth place with a throw of 148 feet, 11 inches. Sophomore Annika Cederstrand finished in 10th place with a personal best 148-6 toss, which ranks seventh in program history.

Freshman Madison Mooney ran the 1500 meter and finished fifth in her heat. She ran a time of 4:28.93, good for 18th place.

In her first of two events this weekend, senior Banke Oginni finished 16th in hammer throw with a 182-6 toss. The captain will return to the field on Saturday to throw the shot at 4:30 p.m.
In the heptathlon Kelsey Sullivan sits in ninth place after four events with a score of 2,946 points.
The graduate student earned seventh place in the 100 hurdles in a time of 14.76 before taking sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5-4 1/4.
In the shot put, Sullivan recorded a throw of 36-6 ½ before running a collegiate best of 27.08 in the 200 meters.
