No. 16 Badgers drop overtime heartbreaker to No. 1 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In a battle of two of the top-16 teams in the country, the No. 16 Wisconsin women's soccer team held its ground in regulation against No. 1 Florida State but ultimately fell 1-0 in overtime on Sunday at the Seminole Soccer Complex
The Badgers (1-1-0) controlled action in the opening half as UW outshot Florida State (2-0-0) 4-3, including a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal. Lauren Rice, Cammie Murtha and Dani Rhodes each had great looks on the Seminole net in the first 45 minutes.
Florida State outshot UW 7-4 in the second half, but each team only had one shot on goal while FSU's came in the final seconds of regulation.
In overtime, FSU's Malia Berkely scored with just over a minute remaining in the first session to hand the Badgers their first loss of the season.
Notes to Know
The Badgers return to Madison to open their home slate at the McClimon Soccer Complex. UW faces in-state rival Marquette on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Butler on Sunday at 1 p.m.

- This marked the sixth time in school history that the Badgers have faced the No. 1 team in the country and the first time UW has forced overtime against the nation's top team.
- Sunday's matchup was the first of three for UW against top-10 teams as UW faces No. 4 UCLA on Sept. 14 and No. 6 Penn State on Sept. 29.
- Despite being outshot by FSU, 14-8, the Badgers had four shots on goal to the Seminole's two.
