Clutch Cammie: Murtha scores game-winning goal against Butler
September 01, 2019 | Women's Soccer
UW wins its second-straight OT game in Madison
MADISON, Wis. -- For the third-straight game, the Wisconsin women's soccer team needed overtime against a non-conference opponent.
And for the second-straight game, the Badgers found OT magic at the McClimon Soccer Complex as junior forward Cameron Murtha came to the rescue with a goal in the 95th minute to lead UW to a 2-1 win over Butler.
Murtha knocked in a ball in the fifth minute of overtime off an assist from Jordan McNeese to extend the Badgers' (3-1-0) unbeaten streak at McClimon to 10-games.
After giving up a goal midway through the first half to Butler (3-1-0), the Badgers evened the game in the 42nd minute with a goal off the head of McNeese. A cross field assist from Grace Douglas set up the redshirt junior McNeese for just the second goal in her career. The diving header fell perfectly in the back of the net to tie the game for the Badgers.
After the break, both the Badgers and the Bulldogs exchanged goal threats, but neither team was able to find the goal. Wisconsin's Emma Jaskaniec had an opportunity in the 74th minute, but the shot attempt was deflected out of play by the Butler goalie Stephanie Rodriguez. The Badgers had another chance to pull ahead when Lauren Rice's shot went off the left post, but bounced back into play. .
