UW starts the season with two home wins
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team opened its home season of dual play with back-to-back wins against Illinois State and Chicago State this Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. After clinching a 6-1 win over the Redbirds, the Badgers maintained their victory with a 6-1 win over the Cougars.
UW came out of the gates fast in doubles against Illinois State. The team of Jared Pratt and Chase Colton defeated Melker Isaksson and Brandon Lew, 6-1, to clinch the doubles point for the Badgers following Scott Sculley and Lenard Soha's 6-2 win over Jorge Adair Bartra and Diego Le Gal Perez.
In singles play, Lenard Soha clinched the win after defeating Jorge Adair Bartra in two sets, 6-1, 6-4. Chase Colton, Jared Pratt, and Robert Krill put up three more wins in two straight sets and Robin Parts bested his opponent, Nam Pham, after a third set.
The Badgers outplayed Chicago State in both doubles and singles play. Scott Sculley and Lenard Soha recorded their second win of the day in doubles with a sweep defeating Jesus Perez Plaza and Jakob Suler, 6-0. Shortly after, Jesper Freimuth and Martim Vilela recorded a win against their opponents, Javier Sanchez and Pedja Kolaric.
UW went 4-1 in singles action after Jesper Freimuth's win over Pedja Kolaric gave the Badgers a fourth point to win the match. Gabriel Huber, Daniel Nuzhny, and Robert Krill defeated their opponents in straight sets.
