Badgers shine across multiple meets
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Wisconsin women's track and field team began a weekend of split-squad competition Friday at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington and the Jack Johnson Classic in Minneapolis.Â
Twenty-six Badgers are competing at Indiana Relays this weekend including NCAA qualifiers Alicia Monson and Bianca Stubler making their 2020 track debuts.
Gabby DesRosiers led the way for the Badgers at Indiana Relays, winning the 600 meters in a season-best 1 minute, 32.27 seconds. Teammates Ali Dorn and Bianca Stubler weren't far behind. Dorn, a true freshman, had an impressive finish by placing third with a time of 1:34.21, with Stubler finishing fourth in 1:34.58.
Destiny Huven, Melissa Symons, Ali Dorn, Peyton Sippy and Rachel Werking all had strong performances for the Badgers in Indiana.
Six field athletes are competing at the Jack Johnson Classic this weekend. Hailey Orlowski and Rayce Albino tied for third place in the pole vault Friday by clearing 12 feet, 1/2 inch, while Jordan Hirsbrunner placed fourth in the pentathlon, with 3,972 points. The redshirt sophomore had the fastest time in the pentathlon 800 meters, at 2:19.81, and placed top five in each of the five events.
The true freshman duo of Destiny Huven and Melissa Symons had strong performances in their second collegiate meet, with both advancing to Saturday's final in the 60-meter hurdles. The pair finished second and fifth, respectively, with Huven running 8.56 and Symons running 8.66.Â
Peyton Sippy and Rachel Werking led the way for UW's distance runners. Sippy placed third in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:02.98. Werking ran a time of 17:46.26 in the 5,000 meters to place fourth overall.Â
The Badgers will continue competition in Bloomington and Minneapolis on Saturday.Â
