Captain recorded three points while leading UW to Battle at the Burgh title
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey senior Mekenzie Steffen was named the WCHA Defenseman of the Week after leading UW to the Battle at the Burgh title, the league announced on Tuesday.
Steffen posted a WCHA defensemen best three points while earning a spot on the all-tournament team at the Battle at the Burgh last weekend in Pittsburgh.
The Centerville, Minnesota, native posted two assists in UW's 3-1 win against Robert Morris before adding another assist in UW's 4-3 win over No. 3 Northeastern. Her three assists were tied for the WCHA lead among all active skaters.
Steffen and the top-ranked Badgers head to Bemidji to take on the BSU Beavers this weekend at the Sanford Center. Puck drop on Friday is set for 6 p.m. while Saturday's series finale begins at 3 p.m.
