Senior forward off to a hot start for the Badgers
MADISON, Wis. — The Hockey Commissioners Association named Linus Weissbach its November Men's Player of the Month on Thursday for his outstanding performance in the Badger's opening stretch.
Weissbach, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, recorded five goals and five assists for 10 points in just eight games so far this season, four of which were multi-point games. In the Badger's season opener against Notre Dame, he tallied and assisted and scored the game-winning goal.
Although the Badgers have faced a series of challenges this season, Weissbach proved he is able to step up and be a top player his coaches and teammates can rely on up front. Weissbach recorded at least one goal in each of the team's first four series. He currently averages 1.25 points per game.
Weissbach was selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. As a freshman, he recorded 26 points for third on the team and was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team. He also received Academic All-Big Ten honors his junior year.
Before he donned number nine on the Badgers, Weissbach skated for Frölunda Hockey Club in Sweden and the Tri-City Storm of the USHL where he notched 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points in 49 games. The forward also represented his country in international play, winning a Bronze medal in the 2014-15 World Hockey Challenge with Team Sweden.
Weissbach and the Badger's are in Columbus, Ohio, where they'll face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in a Thursday-Friday series. Both games are at 4:30 p.m. CT.
