Jolie Fish hits a grand slam to take down No. 17 ASU
TEMPE, Ariz. – On day two of the Sun Devil Classic, the Wisconsin Softball team (10-8) split their two games of the day. After a 5-4 loss to Maryland (8-9), the Badgers bounced back and took down No. 17 Arizona State (15-6) on their home field in a 10-1 win in five innings.

Maryland
In a close 4-5 game, the Terrapins edged the Badgers by one run this afternoon.
Â
Fiona Girardot hit a double in the first inning. To follow, Caroline Hedgcock singled to center field and allowed for Girardot to run across home plate and be the first run on the scoreboard. Badgers would extend their early lead when Taylor Johnson hit a single, and Hedgcock scored.
Â
After Maryland put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth, Wisconsin responded with their own pair of runs in the top of the fifth to make it a tie game.
Â
Tyra Turner pinch ran for Kayla Konwent and scored after Fish reached first base on a fielder's choice, and Girardot walked. Girardot scored when Johnson, who got on base from a fielder's choice, got into a pickle and allowed Girardot to score from third.
Â
Although Maryland wouldn't respond that inning, a single run in the bottom of the sixth followed by a Wisconsin scoreless inning would be all they needed to secure the win.
Â
Haley Hestekin pitched for UW for six innings. The junior tallied three strikeouts.

After falling to the Sun Devils the previous night, the Badgers came back and won in a convincing 10-1 fashion.
Â
Jolie Fish sent the ball over the fence to right center and had herself a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning, giving the Badgers a 10-0 lead. Her homer scored Jordan Little, Ally Miklesh and Morgan Kummer. Those three got on base from being hit by the pitch, laying a singled bunt and getting walked, respectively.
Â
Caroline Hedgcock had a home run of her own that would be sent deep into center field and also brought home Jolie Fish.
Â
Morgan Kummer had a double in the first inning that set the tone of the game. After her hit, Fiona Girardot was hit by a pitch, and Taylor Johnson hit a double that scored Kummer. Freshman Abby Herbst singled to left field, and Girardot and Johnson scored to make it a 3-0 game.
Â
At the beginning of the fourth inning, Lauren Foster hit a single that put her team in a good position to keep the lead. She would eventually score when Kummer was walked with bases loaded.
Â
The Sun Devils tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the fifth, and while they were able to score a single, their bats were no match for the Badgers as they run-ruled the top-ranked opponent.
Â
Kaitlyn Menz got the win for the Badgers in the circle. She pitched all five innings and had two strikeouts.
