Oops she did it again!
Alicia Monson took out the 5000 meters conservatively, sticking with the pack for the first half of the race before making her move and taking a commanding lead over the field. The defending NCAA and Big Ten Champion in the event claimed her fifth Big Ten title with a time of 16 minutes and 4.77 seconds. On the national level, the senior ranks No. 2 in the 3000 meter and No. 23 in the mile.
Blair brings home bronze
Senior
Meagan Blair had a fantastic day, jumping her way to a third place finish in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 40 feet 3 1/4 inches. Her mark ties for ninth on the Wisconsin top-10 performance list.
The future is bright for Huven and Schaefer
Freshman
Destiny Huven has already proven herself to be the best 60-meter hurdler in Wisconsin history after her school record-setting performance on Friday. Huven was the top seed coming into Saturday's final, with a record time of 8.25. The rookie battled a competitive and veteran field to finish fourth with a time of 8.28, just .02 seconds off third place. Huven had an incredible indoor season, dropping about a second off her time in the hurdles this season.
It's no secret that the Big Ten is one of the best conferences for throwers. Redshirt sophomore
Josie Schaefer came into the meet No. 5 in the Big Ten and No. 10 in the NCAA. Schaefer knew she would have to have an amazing performance to earn herself a spot on the podium. The sophomore placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 54-11 1/4 but her season is not done yet as she is a probable NCAA indoor qualifer with a personal best toss of 56-6 3/4.
Heartbreak in Ohio
The 4x400--meter relay of Dorn, Lubow, DesRosiers and Stubler was on its way to breaking the school record, something they have been close to all season when an Ohio State runner interfered with Lubow. The incident pushed Lubow off of the track for a few moments and disqualified Ohio State. Lubow, DesRosiers and Stubler had amazing runs fighting their way back through the track to finish seventh with a time of 3:40.27. The quartet just missed the school record by less than a second due to the interference.
Up Next
The NCAA qualifiers are headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in two weeks to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships. Events will be held on March 13-14 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
