Badgers will train July 5-12 in Anaheim
MADISON, Wis. – Two members of the Wisconsin volleyball team have been named to the 28-player U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team – Gold roster comprised of current collegiate players. Rising sophomore Izzy Ashburn was one of four setters named while incoming freshman Devyn Robinson was one of eight middle blockers selected.
Â
Ashburn, a 5-foot-11 setter from Dayton, Minnesota, played in all 116 sets and 34 matches as a true freshman in 2019. She led the team in service aces with 47, which set a UW 25-point rally scoring season record. Ashburn also averaged 2.14 digs per set, playing primarily as a server and back-row specialist for the Badgers' right-side hitter.
Â
Robinson is the only incoming freshman to be named to the team as she has yet to play Wisconsin after joining the Badgers in January, graduating from Ankeny (Iowa) Centennial High School early. She is the first incoming freshman named to the team since 2016. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker won gold at the 2019 FIVB Girls U18 World Championship, being named the Best Blocker of the tournament. Robinson was also named to the 2019 Under Armour All-America First Team.
Â
Chris McGown has been selected to serve as head coach of the CNT-Gold roster. He will be assisted by BYU Head Coach Heather Olmstead, University of San Diego Assistant Coach Alfred Reft and three-time Olympian and two-time silver medalist Tayyiba Haneef-Park.
Â
The CNT Gold will train July 5-12 in Anaheim at the American Sports Centers where they will compete side-by-side with the U.S. Women's National Team as it makes final preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Â
The 56 CNT athletes were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 21-23 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
