MADISON, Wis. – Former Wisconsin women's soccer standouts Cam Biegalski and Rose Lavelle will take part in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup that begins on Saturday in Utah.
The duo will take part in the first U.S. professional team sport competition since the COVID-19 pandemic paused sports in the United States in early March.
For Biegalski, it will mark her professional debut as the 2019 Big Ten Defender of the Year will suit up for the Chicago Red Stars while Lavelle, a hero at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, is back for the Washington Spirit.
A second-team All-American last fall, Biegalski, a native of Lombard, Illinois, led UW to an undefeated record in the Big Ten Conference (10-0-1) and the 2019 Big Ten regular-season crown. The first-team All-Big Ten performer helped UW earn shutouts in 12 of its 22 games in 2019.
Lavelle was a four-time first-team All-Big Ten performer and a three-time All American during her historic career with the Badgers. She was a two-time Big Ten Midfielder of the Year selection and was a semifinalist for the 2015 Mac Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in women's college soccer. The Cincinnati native received the Bronze Ball at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup after scoring three goals for Team USA and leading the team to its fourth World Cup.
The Red Stars and Spirit will open up the tournament against each other on Saturday with a 9 p.m. CT game at Zions Bank Stadium. The full tournament will be streamed live on CBS All Access in the U.S. and Canada and rebroadcasts of the game will be shown on CBS Sports Network. A full schedule can be seen
