Fourteen Badgers crack NHL opening night rosters

Miller makes NHL debut
MADISON, Wis. — Puck drop on Wednesday marked the start of the 2021 NHL hockey season. Wisconsin's hockey program is well represent at the professional level with 14 former Badgers named to opening night rosters.
K'Andre Miller (2018-20), one of the Badgers' top defenseman last season, made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers on Thursday. Miller was selected in the first round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Wyatt Kalynuk (2017-20), another recent Badger defenseman, was named to the Chicago Blackhawks taxi squad, meaning he could potentially make his NHL debut this season. Kalynuk signed with Chicago as a free agent following the Badgers' 2019-20 hockey season.
The Badgers could potentially have 15 former players in the league with the addition of Alex Turcotte (2019-20), who is currently listed as injured, to the Los Angeles Kings.Â
Three Badgers - Jake McCabe for Buffalo, Ryan Suter for Minnesota and Ryan McDonagh for Tampa Bay - are team alternate captains.
