MADISON, Wis – The Wisconsin women's basketball team returns home to host the Michigan State Spartans Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center. Tip time is 3 p.m. live on the Big Ten Network.
Here are five things you need to know before tuning in.
1. SEEING DOUBLE: Junior Forward Imani Lewis recorded her second consecutive double-double Thursday night at Purdue, putting up 16 points and 11 rebounds. The New Jersey native also posted 17 points and 14 boards in the Badgers' loss to Maryland last Sunday. Lewis has notch five double-doubles so far this season. Her performance, leadership and experience will be integral moving forward for Wisconsin as it returns home against the Spartans.
2. DOUGLASS DEPTH: Wisconsin Head Coach Jonathan Tsipis continues to see substantial growth in both production and confidence from his freshman guard Halle Douglass. Douglass has seen increased playing time throughout the season, having a career high day in both points, nine, and minutes, 18, in Wisconsin's last outing at Purdue. The freshman buried two triples in the first half to spur the Badgers in the first half against the Boilermakers.
3. LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCE: While the Badgers still search for their first Big Ten win, their last two outings against Maryland and Purdue have seen some of their best overall team performances of the season. A lot of that con be contributed to a stretch of ranked opponents challenging the Badgers in the first half of the season. Wisconsin has continually improved in both shooting and rebounding as well as its defensive presence. Despite the loss at Purdue, these improvements were all apparent.
4. SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: The 8-2 overall Spartans will travel to the Kohl Center Sunday only having one win in 2021 so far this season. Sparty has had all three of its last scheduled games postponed due to COVID-19 and before their stretch of postponements, losses to Nebraska and Maryland haven't make the new year overly positive. However, this is not a reason to take Michigan State lightly, especially with the Big Ten's fourth leading scorer Nia Clouden. The junior guard is averaging just under 20 points a game for Michigan State and will be the main focus for the Wisconsin defense.
5. HOW TO WATCH: Fans can watch the game on Big Ten Network at 3 p.m. A live radio broadcast will also be available on U-100.9 FM radio as well as live stats and updated available by following @BadgerWBB on Twitter.
