MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving team kicked off the start of its season in winning fashion at the inaugural meet in the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.

In a triangular meet against Purdue and Minnesota the Badgers men's team defeated the Boilermakers 157.0 to 143.0 and the Gophers 165.0 to 135.0. The women's team also came out on top, winning 191.5 to 104.5 against Purdue and 163.0 to 133.0 against Minnesota.

Freshman,
Phoebe Bacon made her name known today finishing first in all three of her individual events. Those included the 200-yard IM (1.57.80), 200 backstroke (1.53.87) and the 100 backstroke (52.27).

Another noteworthy performance on the women's side came from
Emily Ecker who took first in the 1000Â freestyle (9.51.63) and the 500 freestyle (4.50.70).

On the men's side of the meet, two freshmen made waves in their first appearance as Badgers. Jacob Newmark took the gold in the 200Â freestyle (1.35.71) and the 200 backstroke (1.44.79) and
Andrew Benson took first in the 200 IM (1.46.64) and second in the 50 freestyle (19.85).
