PISCATAWAY, N.J. — In its toughest test of the 2021 campaign, the Wisconsin women's soccer team battled tough against No. 6 Rutgers but ultimately fell, 1-0, in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 Big Ten Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
The Scarlet Knights (15-2, 10-0 Big Ten), who went undefeated in Big Ten Conference play, immediately put pressure on the Badgers (8-5-, 3-4-4 Big Ten) with two shots on goal in the first eight minutes.
Rutgers took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd off a goal from Sara Brocious.
The Badgers were outshot 9-4 in the first half and received the only corner kick opportunity. Goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer made six saves to keep UW in the game.
Wisconsin turned up the heat in the second half with 7 shots, five of which were on goal, and three corner kicks but were unable to find the equalizer to force overtime.
Rutgers led 21-11 in shots and 5-4 in corner kicks with all five of their opportunities coming in the second half.
Bloomer, a two-time All-American, ended the game with a career high 11 saves.
