Badgers fall to Notre Dame in first game of series

Ahcan scored power-play goal in second consecutive game

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Wisconsin men's hockey team (4-7-0, 2-3-0-1-0-0 Big Ten) fell 5-1 to No.15 Notre Dame (7-3-0, 0-2-0-0-0-0) in the first game of its series on Friday at the Compton Family Ice Arena.

Roman Ahcan put the Badgers on the board first, scoring two minutes, 30 seconds into the first period. The Badgers held their 1-0 lead throughout the entire period. 

Notre Dame's Landon Slaggert got the Fighting Irish on the board within the first three minutes of the second period. Jessie Lansdell and Trevor Jenicke both added one a piece to make it 3-1 at the end of the second.

Max Ellis of Notre Dame scored on a power play, its second of the night, with 9:21 left in the third period. Ellis scored his second of the night when UW pulled its goaltender on a power play within the next six minutes, securing Notre Dame's 5-1 win

Notes to know: 
  • Roman Ahcan put the Badgers on the board first at 2:35 in the first period with his second power-play goal in as many games.
  • Jared Moe had 43 saves
  • Wisconsin was 1-3 in the power play
