Sophomore sweeps awards this month
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin women's hockey forward Makenna Webster has been named National Player of the Month by the Hockey Commissioner's Association.
Webster was recently named the WCHA Forward of the Month for the second time this season and also earned her second WCHA Forward of the Week for the season on November 1. She earned HCA Rookie of the Month in March after helping the Badgers to their NCAA title and was also named the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2021 NCAA Women's Frozen Four.
The St. Louis native continues to lead the NCAA in points, now at 27 which is over double what she scored in her entire freshman season. She also leads the NCAA in assists with 15 and power play goals with 5. She is tied with teammate Daryl Watts for best plus/minus in the league at +23. In this season's 12-0-0 start for Wisconsin, the sophomore has recorded eight multi-point games, two in which she has scored four points. Her latest performance saw her score her first collegiate hat trick and an assist to total four points in Wisconsin's 6-2 win over Minnesota State.Â
Webster and the top-ranked Badgers welcome Bemidji State to LaBahn Arena this weekend. Puck drop on both Saturday and Sunday is set for 2 p.m.
