Maty Wilke announces redshirt

Beaver Dam standout will return to court in 2022-23

MADISON, Wis. – Maty Wilke, a freshman on the Wisconsin women's basketball team, has announced that she will redshirt the 2021-22 season. The Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, standout will have four seasons of eligibility remaining, starting in 2022-23.

"After speaking with Coach Moseley, the staff and my family, I have decided it is in my best interest to redshirt this season and focusing on making sure my knee is at 100%," Wilke said. "Though I may not be on the court, I am so excited to be a part of this program and to play and learn from Coach Mo!

"With the support of my teammates, coaches and our support staff, I will continue to work towards next season and look forward to competing at the collegiate level and representing the Badgers."

Wilke, a five-foot-10 guard, was a three-time All-Badger Conference selection and was named the 2020 conference player of the year at Beaver Dam High School. As a senior, she was averaging 21.8 points, 8.6 assists, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 steals per game before tearing the ACL in her right knee in December of 2020.

Wilke led the Golden Beavers to three WIAA Division 2 state tournaments, including two state championships. As a junior, she earned unanimous first-team all-state honors, averaging 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game.

"We're all very proud of Maty and the progress she has made in her recovery from an injury suffered during her senior year of high school," said head coach Marisa Moseley. "The decision to redshirt is never easy.

"As a competitor, Maty wants to be out on the court with her teammates; however, she contributes to our program in so many other ways. She is a true representation of what a Badger student-athlete is seen through her resilience, strength and infectious smile. She has wholly committed to her rehabilitation and I know that when she returns, the comeback will be one to watch out for!"
