MINNEAPOLIS— For the second-straight day, the Border Battle between the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team and the No. 2 Minnesota Golden Gophers needed overtime as the two rivals battled to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.
Sophie Shirley and Maddi Wheeler scored for the Badgers (9-2-1, 9-2-1-2 WCHA) but were unable to hold onto a two-goal lead against the Golden Gophers (9-5-1, 9-5-1-1 WCHA).Â
The second game of the series got off to a slow start and remained scoreless until Sophie Shirley was able to net the puck with just over a minute left in the first period.
The Badgers added another goal in the second period as Wheeler scored her second of the year, but Minnesota made it a 2-1 game after Abigail Boreen scored late in the period.
Minnesota scored its game-tying goal late in the third period as the refs reviewed the goal for goalie interference, but deemed it a good goal.Â
After a scoreless 3-on-3 overtime session, Minnesota earned the extra point in the WCHA standings with a 1-0 win in the shootout.Â

On the weekend:Â
"It was a good weekend. The tie was a battle and both teams played hard, the goaltender player very well. When I look back on the two games it was good to get back into heavy competition. The team played very well so I'm happy and we'll move forward onto next week."
On where the team is headed:
"We've come a long ways in the four or five weeks since break and we're moving in the right direction."

On the weekend:
"I think it was a good weekend. I think both teams came out to play for both games and we were able to see what they're like when they're on their game. I think it was a good test for us and overall a good weekend."
