UW scores late goal to earn 1-0 triumph over the Scarlet Knights

MADISON, WIS. – Thanks to a late goal by sophomore Jenna Kiraly, the Wisconsin women's soccer team took down No. 19 Rutgers, 1-0, on a windy day at the McClimon Soccer Complex.

A wind moving north to south held the game scoreless for the majority of the contest, but in the 87th minute senior Maia Cella made a sliding tackle to steal the ball from the Scarlet Knights and sent it to fellow senior Cameron Murtha, who passed it to Jenna Kiraly for her first score of the season.

Wisconsin began the contest with the wind in their favor, but could not find a clear scoring opportunity despite having five corner kick attempts and three shots over Rutgers' two and one on goal.

The second half was a different story as the Scarlet Knight's outshot the Badgers 11-1 with six on goal. Jordyn Bloomer led the Wisconsin defense saving all seven shots on goal by Rutgers in the game.

Kiraly's goal was the only shot attempted by Wisconsin throughout the whole second half, but it made the biggest impact at the end of the day. It was her third career goal as a Badger and second game clinching goal of her career.

- The Badgers improved to 5-1-2 all-time against Rutgers.
- Kiraly now has three carer goals, two of which have been game-winning goals.
- Six of the Badgers' eight goals have been scored by sophomores this year.
- Bloomer now has 26 career shutouts.
- The Badgers honored their nine seniors prior to kickoff.
