Pavelski leads in power-play goals, Frederic settles into role with Bruins
MADISON, Wis. — Wyatt Kalynuk (2017-20) is the latest Badger to make their NHL debut.
The former Badgers captain hit the NHL ice with the Chicago Blackhawks for the first time on Sunday in a matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kalynuk began the season on the Blackhawk's taxi squad but then joined their AHL affiliate, the Rockford Ice Hogs, back in February. In four games played with the Ice Hogs, he notched one goal and five assists for six points.
As a Badger, Kalynuk recorded a career-high 28 points in 36 games last season, consisting of seven goals and 21 assists. He signed as a free agent with Chicago following his junior year at UW.
Defending Stanley Cup Champion Ryan McDonagh (2007-10) faced off against Kalynuk and the Hawks, recording a goal and an assist in their three-game series.
Kalynuk's debut made him the 87th Badger in the NHL all-time and the second this season. New York Rangers' defenseman K'Andre Miller made his NHL debut earlier this season.
Trent Frederic (2016-18), another former Badger, has also made strides in the NHL recently. He picked up goals against the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals last week and is making an impact on the Boston Bruins' roster.
Meanwhile, in the NHL's Discover Central division, Joe Pavelski (2004-06) recorded goals in back-to-back games with the Dallas Stars. He is now just 19 shy of 400 career goals. Pavelski also leads the NHL in power-play goals with 10.
Former Badger Brian Elliott (2003-07) backstopped a shutout in the Philadelphia Flyers matchup with the Buffalo Sabres last week. He currently has wins in six of 10 games played this season.
