Badgers finish in eighth at Boilermaker Intercollegiate
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Wisconsin shot an 881 (+17) to finish the Boilermaker Intercollegiate in eighth place.
Sam Anderson led the team, finishing at three-under-par for a 213. He finished tied for fourth, marking his third top-five finish in his time at Wisconsin.
"Looking at this weekend, I just tried to play my game. I knew I couldn't let last week get to me," said Anderson. "I knew if I drove the ball better and hit some close irons and wedges, I could give myself a ton of birdie opportunities."
Joining Anderson among the top 25 was fellow senior Griffin Barela, who finished T-23 after shooting a three-over-par 219. This is his 14th top-25 finish.
The teams played two rounds on Saturday and Wisconsin went 293-289 to head into Sunday at six-over-par. The Badgers were one of a handful of teams to finish both rounds before play was suspended due to darkness.Â
The rest of the teams finished Sunday morning before the final round began. Wisconsin shot an 11-over 299 to close out the tournament.
"This was one of those weeks where it definitely could've been better, but there was a lot of great stuff," said head coach Michael Burcin. "Brutally difficult conditions and we hung in every round. I really like this group."
Robbie Morway and Ryan Smith both competed in the individual event at the Ackerman-Allen course.Â
In his collegiate debut, Smith finished T-21 and five-over-par. He set a career-low 18-hole score of 71 at one-under-par and a 36-hole score of 145. To round out his first tournament, he shot a 54-hole low of 221.
Morway carded a T-15 finish, shooting just three-over-par. He also shot a career-low 18-hole score of 70 at two-under-par, a 36-hole score of 147 and a 54-hole score of 219. His improved his previous best 36-hole score by seven strokes.
Wisconsin has one last tournament before the team heads to the Big Ten Championship. The Badgers are set to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational on April 17-18.
