MINNEAPOLIS – The Wisconsin women's soccer team drew rival Minnesota, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.
Freshman
Sophia Romine got her first points as a Badger with a 54th-minute goal to put UW up 1-0. Sophomore
Emma Jaskaniec was credited with the assist on the play and increased her team high season point total to eight.
Three minutes later, Minnesota answered with a goal to tie the game at 1-1.
The game was played evenly in the first half with the Badgers posting three shots with two on goal and the Golden Gophers attempting two shots with one on goal.
In the overtime periods, Wisconsin put up five shots and three on goal. The closest attempt came in the 107th minute when
Cameron Murtha found an open lane with the Minnesota goalie away from the net. Murtha took a shot, but a Minnesota defender made a team save to avoid the Badger's attempt for a golden goal.
Notes to Know
- With the draw, the Badgers finish the regular season with a 6-3-2 record in the Big Ten, which ranks fourth in the conference and is the best record by a team in the Big Ten West Division.
- UW is now 18-13-2 all-time against Minnesota and is unbeaten in its last nine matchups with the Gophers.
