
Weissbach inks deal with Buffalo Sabres

Senior forward was nation’s third-leading scorer
MADISON, Wis. – Senior forward Linus Weissbach inked a two-year, entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Weissbach will finish out the school year and graduate, while his contract begins in 2021-22. He was chosen 192nd overall and in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Draft.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Weissbach recorded 12 goals, 29 assists and 41 points in 31 games played this season, which ranks third in the nation. His average of 1.32 points per game officially ranks fifth in the nation, while his 29 assists are second in the country.
He finished his Badger playing career with 114 points on 34 goals and 80 assists in 127 games. The 114-point total shares 51st all-time in school history with Stanley Cup champion Bruce Driver and Hobey Baker Award-winner Blake Geoffrion.
Named to the 2021 All-Big Ten Second Team, Weissbach opened this past season as the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Player of the Month for November after recording five goals and 10 points in eight games during the month.
A three-time Academic All-Big Ten player as a communication arts major, Weissbach began his UW career as co-recipient of the Mark Johnson Rookie of the Year award his freshman season.
Former Badger player and associate head coach Don Granato currently serves as the Buffalo Sabres' interim head coach, while former Badger defemseman Jake McCabe skates for Buffalo, but is out with and injury.
