Josie Schaefer books ticket to NCAA Championships

Badgers advance three to Saturday quarterfinals
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Sophomore Josie Schaefer booked her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships to highlight the first day of the NCAA West Qualifying Round for the Wisconsin women's track and field team on Thursday.
Freshman Kiley Robbins ran the fastest time in school history in the 100 meters, finishing fourth in her heat in 11.36 seconds. Her wind-aided time won't qualify as the school record but improves upon the wind-aided time of 11.45 set by Lisa Payne in 1990. She will run in Saturday's quarterfinals at 7:05 p.m. with the 19th fastest time, improving upon her pre-meet seed of 35th.
Junior Madison Mooney advanced to the quarterfinals of the 800 meters after finishing fourth in her heat and 19th overall in 2:06.81. She will compete on Saturday 7:35 p.m.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Bianca Stubler will compete in the next round after finishing third in her heat and 15th overall in 58.90. The quarterfinals begin at 7:55 p.m. on Saturday.
Sophomore Destiny Huven placed fifth in her heat and 24th overall in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing in 13.26.
Sophomore Victoria Heiligentahl took seventh in her heat of the 1500 meters in 4:28.16, finishing 30th overall.
Sophomore Alexa Westley placed 27th in the 10,000 meters in 35:22.72, after entering the meet with the 35th fastest time.
In the pole vault, Hailey Orlowski tied for 35th with a clearance of 12-10 1/4 while Tia Dorshorst failed to clear the bar.

The UW women have six individual athletes as well as one relay challenging for the right to advance to the NCAA Championships when they compete on Saturday, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Schaefer advances to nationals
After qualifying for the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships and earning second-team All-America honors in the shot put, Schaefer also qualified for the outdoor championships in the shot put on Thursday. The Baraboo native finished seventh in the event at 56 feet 5, 3/4 inches to move on to the national meet.Three Badgers qualify for Saturday rounds

The Badger men qualified three athletes to Friday's finals with Jackson Sharp competing in the 1500 meters, L.O. Johnson in the 100 meters and Abdullahi Hassan in the 800 meters as well as Olin Hacker in the 5,000 meters. All four will be looking to finish among the top 12 in their respective events to advance to the national championships. Events begin at 5:45 p.m.Â
