Ā Wisconsin women's soccer legend Rose Lavelle added another accolade to her resume on Wednesday, as the three-time All-American was named to the United State's roster for the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics.Ā
A native of Cincinnati, Lavelle, who helped the U.S. win the 2019 Women's World Cup, is one of seven players on the 18-player U.S. roster that will make its Olympic debut next month.Ā
The midfielder has appeared in 55 games for the USWNT,Ā recording 14 goals and 9 assists, including a memorable goal at the 2019 Women's World Cup thatĀ sealed the victory for the U.S.Ā
During her time at UW, LavelleĀ earned four first-team All-Big Ten honors and was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year in both 2015 and 2016, becoming the first player in conference history to win the award in consecutive years.Ā
The United StatesĀ will play two final tune-up games against Mexico on July 1 and 5 in Hartford, Connecticut, before heading to Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The United States will open play at the Olympics against reigning Olympic champion Sweden on Wednesday, July 21 at 3:30 a.m. CT.Ā
