FUKUSHIMA, Japan -- Former Wisconsin softball standout Kelsey (Jenkins) Harshman had a RBI single to cap off Canada's 4-0 win over Mexico during the opening game of the 2020 Summer Olympics on Wednesday.
Canada jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before adding a solo home run in the third inning to take a 3-0 advantage. Harshman launched a single to right field in the fourth inning to score Victoria Hayward to cap off the scoring for Canada.
In its second game of the Summer Olympics, Canada battled tough against the U.S., but ultimately fell 1-0.
Harshman went 0-3 in the game against the U.S., but made a great defensive play in the sixth inning to keep the game within reach.
