YOKOHAMA, JAPAN --Ā Former Wisconsin softball standout Kelsey (Jenkins) Harshman knocked in the winning run to lead Canada to a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics on Tuesday.Ā
Harshman had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning that scored Janet Leung to help Canada win its first medal in softball.Ā
The Delta, British Columbia, native also showed her defensive prowess in the top of the fifth inning, saving a run thanks to a great snag at second base.Ā
Harshman is the first Badger to earn a medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics and it marks the 32nd time a Badger athlete has earned a medal at a Summer Games.Ā
"I think all of Badger nation was staying up late tonight watching KJ and Team Canada chase history, medaling for the first time," UW head coach
Yvette Healy said. "We are so proud of Kelsey's clutch, competitive fire!"
