Duo led UW to sweep at Lindenwood
MADISON, Wis. – After posting career weekends during the Badgers' sweep at Lindenwood, Wisconsin women's hockey sophomore forward Casey O'Brien and redshirt sophomore defenseman Katie Kotlowski earned WCHA player of the week honors, the league announced on Monday.
O'Brien was named the WCHA Forward of the Week after scoring six of UW's 18 goals last weekend, while Kotlowski was named the WCHA Defender of the Week after scoring three goals and adding an assist.
A forward from Milton, Massachusets, O'Brien posted two goals in UW's 8-1 win on Friday as she scored UW's first goal of the game and the team's last goal of the game. She followed up her first multi-goal game of her career with a four-goal outing, becoming only the sixth Badger to record four or more goals in a contest. She also earned UW's first natural hat trick in four years in the process, scoring the first three goals. Her six goals lead the NCAA while her six points are tied for the WCHA lead with fellow Badgers Sophie Shirley and Makenna Webster.
Kotlowski, a Warroad, Minnesota, native, scored her first career goal in UW's 8-1 win on Friday night before potting both a power play and short-handed goal in the Badgers' 10-0 win on Saturday. She also earned an assist in Friday night's game to earn her first multi-point game as a Badger. Her four points were tied for the most by a NCAA blueliner last weekend.
No. 1 Wisconsin continues its road swing by taking on Merrimack this weekend in North Andover, Massachusetts. Puck drop on both Friday and Saturday at Lawler Rink is set for 1 p.m.
