Viggiano scores game-wining goal for UW in the second overtime
MILWAUKEE – Senior Natalie Viggiano scored late in the second period of overtime to lift the Wisconsin women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over in-state rival Milwaukee on Thursday night at Engelmann Stadium.
Viggiano scored her third of the year and her second game-winning tally thanks to an assist from junior Izzy Verdugo with less than 90 seconds to go in the final overtime.
Junior Emma Jaskaniec put UW on the board in the 34th minute, firing the ball into the right corner of the net to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead heading into half time.
Milwaukee wouldn't go down without a fight, scoring in the 61st minute to even the game at 1-1.
The Badgers thought they had won the game in the first minute of the first overtime, as senior Cammie Murtha launched a header into the net, but the offsides flag was raised and the potential match clincher was disallowed.
Senior Jordyn Bloomer made two big saves in overtime to keep the game deadlocked before Viggiano's game-winning strike.
Notes to Know:
UW wraps up its non-conference schedule on Sunday with a matchup at home at the McClimon Soccer Complex vs. Providence. Kickoff is slated for noon and admission is free.
