CHICAGO -- The Wisconsin men's track and field team won five events at the Wisconsin Midwest Invitational at Gately Indoor Track on Saturday.
Spencer makes his mark
Freshman
Adam Spencer made an impressive debut, winning the 800 meters in a Big Ten Conference-leading time of 1 minutes, 50.09 seconds. His time also ranks No. 9 nationally.
Junior
Liam Belson improved his personal best time by over a second, placing third at 1:53.39.
Junior
Lawrence Johnson opened his indoor season, winning the 60-meter dash in a personal best time of 6.70. His time ranks third in the Big Ten this season and ties him for fourth on the UW indoor performance list.
Wisconsin wins three field events
Badgers swept the throwing events as junior
Andrew Stone recorded an indoor personal best of 61 feet, 8 1/4 inches to win the shot put. His mark ranks him third in the Big Ten this season and moves him up to fourth on the UW performance list. Redshirt freshman
Jason Swarens also threw a personal best, finishing fifth at 55-5 3/4.
Transfer
Sam Coil made his Wisconsin debut by winning the weight throw at 66-10 1/2, which ranks fifth in the conference this season. His throw also ranks him fifth at UW. Senior
Dan Ufearo finished fourth in the weight throw at 61-3 while Stone took sixth at 57-11 3/4.
Redshirt junior
Connor Barfknecht won the triple jump with a personal best leap of 46-10 1/4.
Other top finishers
Junior
Colin Enz earned a runner-up finish in the 300 meters, running a personal best of 33.47.
Sophomore
Davis Wenthe picked up two top-six finishes, taking fourth in the 600 meters in 1:21.85 and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, running a personal best of 8.21. Transfer
Jack Herkert also ran 8.21 in the hurdles, finishing just ahead of Wenthe in fifth place and running a personal best time.
In the field events,
Chandlar Ifft placed fourth in the pole vault at 14-9 1/2 and
Quinn Lansill took fourth in the long jump at 20-4 1/2.

Most of the Badgers will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, next Friday-Saturday for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. UW's throwers head to Champaign, Illinois, for the Illini Invitational on Friday-Saturday.
