Senior has been named Defender of the Week four times this year
MADISON, Wis.— Wisconsin women's hockey senior Nicole LaMantia has been named WCHA Defender of the Month for December, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
It marks the first time that LaMantia, an alternate captain for the Badgers, has been named the WCHA Defender of the Month.
The senior led WCHA blueliners in the month of December with five points while her +6 plus/minus rating was the best mark by a skater during the month. She also earned WCHA Defender of the Week honors after leading UW to a sweep of Bemidji State to close out the first half.
A four-time WCHA Defender of the Week, LaMantia ranks fourth in the NCAA and leads the WCHA in blocked shots with 52. A native of Wayne, Illinois, LaMantia ranks third among NCAA blueliners with 20 points this season and has eight points in her last four games.
The Badgers will host UW-Eau Claire for an exhibition game at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10. Fans are asked to bring a new or gently used children's book to gain admission to the game instead of paying for a ticket.
