PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Facing its third straight ranked opponent on the road, the Wisconsin women's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 8 Rutgers Sunday afternoon at Yurcack Field.
The Scarlet Knights took advantage of a penalty kick in the 14th minute as Becci Fluchel stroked the ball into the top right corner to give the home team the early edge.
Maddie Ishaug nearly delivered an equalizer, putting two shots on goal in the 20th and 25th, but Rutger's Meagan McClelland maintained the clean sheet.
Aidan McConnell was handed a red card in the 40th minute, leaving Wisconsin to contend with 10 players for the remainder of the match.
Rutgers added another goal in the 50th minute and never looked back as it sealed a 2-0 decision.
The Badgers will return to McClimon Field for two straight home games to close out the regular season, starting with a 7 p.m. matchup against Illinois on Thursday, Oct. 20.
