Simms earns WCHA Rookie of the Week honors

Forward becomes the third Badger to earn rookie accolades this season

MADISON, Wis. – After leading the WCHA with five points last weekend, Wisconsin women's hockey freshman Kirsten Simms was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

A native of Plymouth, Michigan, Simms is the third Badger to win the award in as many weeks as Claire Enright was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 10 and Caroline Harvey collected rookie honors on Oct. 17.

Simms posted a career-high three points in UW's 8-0 win on Thursday thanks to a goal and two assists, before adding two helpers in the Badgers' 7-1 triumph on Friday.

The center also tallied a +4 plus/minus rating during the sweep and had two blocks.

Simms and the third-ranked Badgers hit the road to face No. 5 Minnesota Duluth this weekend at AMSOIL Arena. Puck drop on both Friday and Saturday is set for 3 p.m. and fans can watch both games in the Madison area on the CW.
