Daytime Draw: Badgers and Gophers battle to 3-3 tie

Curl scores late goal to tie top-ranked Gophers in Madison

MADISON, Wis. – Thanks to a late goal by senior captain Britta Curl, the No. 3 Wisconsin women's hockey team battled to a 3-3 tie against No. 1 Minnesota on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd at LaBahn Arena.

Vivian Jungels, Laila Edwards and Curl each potted goals for the Badgers (10-2-1, 7-1-0-1-1-0 WCHA) in the tie against the Gophers (9-1-2, 9-0-2-1-0-1 WCHA).

Jungels got things started for the Badgers with a rocket to the back of the net before the Gophers tied things up.

Edwards got the lead back for Wisconsin with a shot to the upper corner, just 2:11 into the second period, before Minnesota answered with two to regain the lead.

With just 10 seconds to go in the game, Curl tallied a goal with an extra attacker to force overtime.

Both teams had stellar chances in overtime, but neither team was able to earn an overtime triumph.

In the shootout, the Gophers scored on their third attempt to net the extra point in the WCHA standings.

Three Notes of the Game
- Eight of 51 of Britta Curl's career goals have been scored against the Gophers.
- Cami Kronish made a season-high 38 saves in the tie, including a highlight reel save in OT.
- The Badgers are undefeated in games at LaBahn Arena this season with a 6-0-1 record.

Head Coach Mark Johnson
On the fast-paced game:

"At times both teams played really well and I think a lot of people expected what we saw. It was good, a lot of hype, especially early on. It's a learning experience for them, when you score you get excited and then you give up a couple goals in the second period."

On playing a challenging team like Minnesota:
"You just have to keep pushing. You're going to get challenged, and it took the whole period for an opportunity. It's a good game to get experience, at times we were playing really well, excited and jumping, and other times we were down."

Senior Britta Curl
On the outcome of the game:

"There's a lot of good that came out of today. Obviously we want all of the points, but we just have to look at the bright side. I thought we showed some grit at the end of that third period, so we just have to take that into tomorrow and come with a little bit of fire after losing the shootout."

Senior Jesse Compher:
On takeaways from the first game of the series:

"I think that if we show up tomorrow with the same energy we brought today, as you guys saw it was a close game, we just have to keep building off of that, focus on a couple of little things and we should be good to go."
