Adam Spencer and Abdullahi Hassan lead UW on track

CHICAGO -- The Wisconsin men's track and field team had an impressive day on the track on Saturday at the Windy City Invitational.

Hassan moves into second in 800

In one of the fastest 800 meters in the country this season, sophomore Abdullahi Hassan finished fourth in a personal best time of 1 minute, 47.51 seconds. His time moves him into second on the Wisconsin performance list, just .06 off the school record of 1:47.45 set by Zach Mellon in 2020. Hassan's time ranks him third nationally this season and second in the Big Ten Conference. Senior Ansel Fellman equaled his personal best time of 1:50.79 to finish 10th.

Spencer impressive in mile debut

Freshman Adam Spencer ran his second collegiate mile, joining the sub-four-minute club, winning the event in 3:57.29. His time was a personal best by nearly seven seconds and moves him up to fifth on the Wisconsin record list. He also ranks fourth in the Big Ten this season.

Shuaib Aljbaly finished in seventh, beating his personal record by four seconds, to cross in 4:05.02.

Sharp, Wheeler stand out in 3,000 meters

Junior Jackson Sharp set a personal best of more than three seconds, taking fifth in the invitational 3,000 meters in 7:48.56. His time moves him up to third on the UW performance list and ranks him third in the Big Ten this season.

In the open 3,000 meters, Charlie Wheeler beat his previous personal time, finishing third in 7:57.77.

Freshman Oliver Paleen competed in his first 5,000 meters, finishing sixth with a personal best time of 14:23.46. Shuaib Aljabaly placed 10th in 14:31.83.

Also in the distance events, Kavanaugh FitzPatrick placed fifth in the open mile in 4:11.65 while Nick Hruskoci took 10th in 4:14.46.

Liam Belson runs a time of 1:53.95 in the 800 meters, finishing fourth overall.

L.O. levels up

Junior L.O. Johnson took second in the men's 60 meters, setting a new personal best time of 6.61. He is now just .06 seconds away from the school record of 6.55 set by Deme Omole in 2007 and ties for second in the Big Ten this season.

Grad transfer Jack Herkert ran a personal best time in the men's 60-meter hurdles, finishing third in 8.12, beating his previous best by 0.9 seconds.

In the invitational pole vault, Canon Melstrand finished fifth, clearing a personal best height of 16-feet, 7 ¼. His height ranks him eighth in the Big Ten. Teammate Chandler Ifft placed eighth with a height of 15-11 ¼.

Peyton Frankenreider placed eighth in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 47- ¾.

Junior Andrew Stone won the men's shot put with a throw of 60-11 ½. Jason Swarens followed in second place with a toss of 57-1.

For a school outside of Chicago to host a meet here means a lot, being able to represent athletes from the southside of Chicago, to up north, and even suburbs is amazing in itself."

Wisconsin hosts the Badger St. Valentine's Invitational next Friday in the Shell. Events are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. The Badgers also send a distance medley relay to the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, on Friday.
