Badger volleyball assistants recognized for program success
MADISON, Wis. – In the nine years that Kelly Sheffield has been the coach of the Wisconsin volleyball team, the Badgers have become one of the most successful programs in the country winning an NCAA Championship, three Big Ten Conference titles and compiling a winning percentage of .816 (235-53), which ranks seventh nationally.
A prominent reason for that success is Sheffield's coaching staff of assistant coaches Brittany Dildine and Gary White, both of whom have been at Wisconsin all nine seasons. In recognition of the Badgers' success and their roles in it, both Dildine and White have been named associate head coach, Sheffield announced on Tuesday. Â
"Brittany has coached with me for the past 13 years and has worked her way into one of the best recruiters and court coaches in the country," said Sheffield. "Gary has coached with me for the past 11 years and is also one of the best court coaches and analyzes the game as well as anyone. They have been a huge part of our success during that time.
"Britt and Gary are driven to be the best they can be for their players and for this program and they do it in a selfless manner. They also go about things in a way that make it fun to go into the office and gym every day."
In addition to nine years at Wisconsin, Dildine spent four seasons at Dayton under Sheffield, aiding the Flyers to four straight Atlantic-10 Conference titles and four straight NCAA tournament appearances.
As the Badgers' recruiting coordinator, Dildine has brought in six top-20 ranked freshman classes and on the court has coached three All-American liberos in Lauren Barnes (2022 and 2021), Tiffany Clark (2018) and Taylor Morey (2014 and 2015). In 2022, Dildine was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Assistant Coach of the Year. Â
White served as a volunteer assistant coach at Dayton for two seasons before joining the Wisconsin coaching staff. In addition to his duties overseeing opponent scouting, he has coached five All-American middle blockers in Dana Rettke (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), Danielle Hart (2019), Haleigh Nelson (2015, 2016), Tionna Williams (2016), and Dominique Thompson (2014).
